The Body of the Book

by Emma Willemse 06.04.2017

Emma Willemse is a conceptual artist, professor and curator who lives and works in South Africa.
Her artistic creation combines various practices and is inspired by her own traumatic experience of forced displacement.
On the occasion of this carte blanche, the artist presents a performance installation, extracted from her project “101 ways of longing for Home”. This imaginary user manual or archival tool transcribes and re-imagines a multitude of ways to cope with the loss of a home.
In this choreographed intervention, the artist composes, decomposes and recomposes her artist’s books or foldable architectures as so many ways of questioning mobility.
